- The World Energy Council has been in the vanguard of using global energy foresight for the common good for nearly 20 years. The role supports improvement in the quality of global energy leadership dialogue and collaboration and in supporting decision makers in addressing risks and developing new options and solutions which better prepare societies for new energy challenges and disruptive energy developments. The Council’s Humanising Energy agenda directs attention to new demand dynamics and engaging with the increasing diversity in energy to frame/refresh a global archetype scenario framework that is relevant to all world regions. The Council is extending its foresight practices for the global common good to mobilise large scale societal change.
- The Scenarios Director is responsible for oversight and development of the World Energy Council’s energy foresight practices and assets– including its archetype global and focused regional scenarios, world energy transition radar, policy/simulation gaming and ‘transformathon’ pilots. They will collaborate on wider Council Insights programme which includes an annual energy issues horizon scanning and an innovation insights briefing series.
- Working closely with Secretary General, Chief Insights Officer, Scenarios Executive Chair and expert community, the Scenarios Director oversees the global energy scenarios and foresight programme, provides strategic planning and effective management of scenario-related activities with the aim to enable societies to actively engage in energy transitions.
- The Scenarios Director must be experienced in strategic foresight and scenarios planning practices, have excellent leadership, communication and relationship management skills, and the ability to lead and manage the whole programme.

Objective of role
- Lead the Council’s energy foresight and scenarios insights work programme, including effective strategy, capability development and positioning
- Strengthen and grow the Council’s community of energy foresight experts and scenarios practitioners
- Design and manage member-driven initiatives and new commercial offerings which enhance impact and progress new partnership opportunities
Outputs and deliverables
- Scope and deliver high quality programme of work that leverages global community contributions in refreshing the global archetype scenarios in with governance process, and agreed timelines and budget
- Direct and manage regular production of relevant and timely insights and further develop the Council’s energy foresight analytics programme and scenarios-based activities
- Pilot new demand-centric foresight practices, including ‘transformathons’ and help identify and secure new commercial partnerships and revenue generation
- Direct and manage qualitative and quantitative analytics incl. illustrative modelling of scenarios
- Develop new offerings which leverage synergies between scenarios and other Council’s insights tools
- Provide strategic advice and support to Senior Leadership Team and Secretary General relating to energy futures leadership responsibilities and opportunities
- Act as an external ambassador and internal champion and increase visibility and standing of the Council’s foresight and scenarios activities and insights

- Demonstrable track record in leading diverse and distributed teams
- Ability to use different methods – scenario planning, energy foresight, futures design
- Understanding and knowledge of organisational policy/strategy and planning, global energy developments, sustainable development and climate change
- Demonstrable track record of successful scenarios projects development and multi-stakeholder collaboration, ideally with experience in global energy scenarios
- Relevant experience gained in international and fast-paced environment
